Imagine that you live in in a time where time travel is a part of life. You and your partner(s) have been recruited by a travel agency (ANCIENT TRAVEL PTY (LTD) as Time Travel Holiday Specialists representing Ancient Civilisations.

HOW WILL YOU DO IT?

YOUR TASK

You and your partner have been asked to visit Ancient Civilisations to market them to people from your country. The ANCIENT TRAVEL PTY (LTD) COMPANY you work for, as specialists, have asked you and your partner to:

visit 1 ancient civilisation of your choice seperately
take notes of everyday life in the time period you are visiting
to bring back artefacts
create a diorama for exhibition in the travel agency
market the Ancient Civilisation Travel Package for them

PROCESS TO COMPLETE YOUR TASK

As you begin your journey, keep the following criteria in mind to make note of the following components of your ancient civilization (information due 4 & 5 Oct to meet deadline) :

timelines
Traditions: rituals, religions, customs, government
Food: Include what the culture eats, how they get their food, agriculture, hunting
Clothing: Include fashion for various aspects of the civilization, different genders, how garments are made
Arts: music, art, theater, dance
Technology: domestic tools, building, transportation, architecture, weaponry
achievements of this civilisation

You and your partner have decided to compare your notes from your visit to the ancient civilisation of your choice, after you return.

During Social Studies lessons on 4 & 5 October 2007:

Discuss all of your discoveries and make a mind map with your partner and come to an agreement about the scene you want to recreate for your diorama.
Brainstorm ideas from your mind map to decide how best you can represent your ancient civilization in all its different components.
Develop a rough sketch of a "scene" from your journey you would like to represent in the diorama . . . include, landscapes, buildings, homes, etc.
Make a list of materials you will need to turn this rough sketch into a three dimensional scene from your ancient civilization.
decide how you would market your chosen Ancient Civilisation for ANCIENT TRAVEL PTY (LTD). This part of the webquest will be done in collaboration with Business Studies.
Homework - bring materials that you will need to build your diorama to lesson on 18 & 19 October

During Social Studies lessons on 18 & 19 October:

Build and decorate your diorama. The finished product would be on exhibition on open day (24 October)
Design a poster with interesting information and pictures that you would use to complement your diorama in a presentation to the board members of ANCIENT TRAVEL PTY (LTD) on 25 & 26 October.
Homework - complete posters (due 22 October) for exhibition to accompany your diorama

Marketing of your business idea:

brainstorm different marketing and advertising strategies to advertise your Ancient Civilisation to potential customers.
choose with your partner the strategies that will be most effective.
write an elementary business plan of your ideas to present to the ANCIENT TRAVEL PTY (LTD) board members.
prepare your chosen marketing and adverising products.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Your task will be assessed using the following criteria:

Diorama and poster is historically accurate and covers the major areas of the aspect of the civilization.
Learning partners use a variety of resources and documented all sources appropriately in their biography.
Work displays evidence of excellent collaboration incorporating the talents of all members of the team.
Team member responsibilities not recorded or confusing. Most of the information provided by one LP.
